Internet Safty Issues
Elementary students face many dangers online. The internet has explicit content that the students could find accidentally or possibly on purpose. Just because they are younger children does not mean they are unaware of these types of items. It is important to have filters in schools, but most importantly to teach them how to safely explore online so that they can avoid these items. Another danger students may face are online preditors. Saddly children of all ages can begin chatting with someone online and then later be kidnapped. All children need to know that it is not ok to talk to people online that you do not know. It seems difficult to convey the importance of this to some, especially teenage students. I know many people who do not see a problem in talking to strangers online, even sharing personal information and meeting them. It is a difficult challenge helping students be safe, but I think we must find a way to help them make good online decidions.

It is terrible how people become so used to talking to someone online that they think it is safe to meet them--even if it is only within a few weeks or months. How to prevent this?? Parent involvement, computer moderation, and restrictions on the internet!!!
